Construction is no obstruction in this neighbourhood

Construction has been a major cause of traffic congestion on the Upper East Side for the past year, thanks to the new Second Avenue subway line. Since 2007, the blacktop between East 91st and 95th street has been chewed up and repaved repeatedly, making it difficult for Manhattan car rental travelers to discover Yorkville. The boundaries of Yorkville

A quick look back in time

Immigrants have long been the majority in Yorkville, creating a tight-knit working-class neighbourhood. During the nineteenth and twentieth century, the area was comprised mainly of Albanian, Czech, German, Hungarian, Irish and Jewish peoples. A number of the original butchers are still in operation along the street today. Bohemian Boulevard was 72nd Street and included Czech, Pole and Slovak residents. German Boulevard was on 86th Street. Yorkville in the modern era

Unlike the rest of Manhattan, Yorkville prides itself on being a little behind the times.
