The carousel is the result of a collaboration between the Greenbelt Conservancy and the City of New York Parks and Recreation Department. The carousel was built between 1997 and 1999. It contains 51 hand-carved animals, including traditional horses, mythical beasts and endangered species. Look closely and you'll also find some 40 hand-painted renderings of Staten Island landmarks like the Conference House, High Rock Park and Horrmann Castle.
