All-Wheel Drive

No driver input is required in the Nissan Murano's All-Wheel Drive system because of its automatic operation. With speeds exceeding 19 miles per hour, the Controller determines power distribution in the front and rear of the vehicle depending on road conditions. An electric magnet transfers signals from the Controller to the control clutch, which then decides the amount of pressure for the main clutch. Depending on the pressure of the control clutch, the main clutch assembly transfers power to the rear axle and then full pressure gives a 50/50 split in power when speeds drop to 19 miles per hour or below.

CVT

The Nissan Murano's Continuously Variable Transmission has been dubbed the "Xtronic CVT." Xtronic CVT makes for an incredibly silky smooth ride by replacing multiple gear sets and ratios found in automatic or manual transmissions with an infinitely adjustable ratio design. With the elimination of "steps" between gears and the inclusion of two variable diameter pulleys and a high-strength steel belt, it almost feels like you're driving on air.
