The Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum, or the Nassau Coliseum, is a multi-purpose indoor arena in Uniondale that you can visit with your Nassau Coliseum car rental. It is home to the New York Islanders (NHL) and the New York Dragons Arena Football League team.

The Coliseum opened in 1972 on 63 acres if Mitchel Field, the site of a former Army and Air Force Base. It was originally intended to be the home of the New York Raiders, but Nassau County didn’t consider the World Hockey Association to be a professional league and didn’t want them to play here. Instead, they hired William Shea to get an NHL team to play in the building. The Coliseum has also been home to the New York Saints Lacrosse League, the New York Arrows (indoor soccer), the New York Express (indoor soccer), and New York Nets (basketball). The Coliseum is considered to be one of the toughest places to play hockey because the noise from the crowd echoes very loudly.
