The Juilliard School was established in 1905. Dr. Frank Damrosch believed that Americans should have their own music academy instead of having to travel all the way to Europe to attend school. Damrosch planned out a place that would hold 100 students and he figured that would be sufficient. Well, was he ever wrong. The school had to move to a new building in 1910 because of the large number of people interested in attending Juilliard. How did the school get its name, NYC car rental customers? When a rich textile merchant named Augustus Juilliard died in 1919, his will had the biggest inheritance for the advancement of music at that exact time. The trustees of his inheritance decided to found the Juilliard Graduate School to assist music students in finishing their education. In 1926, the school became the Juilliard School of Music. When the school was first built, people weren't very supportive of this new idea. But after they saw what it could do and what could be accomplished here, it soon became one of the most prestigious schools in the area. Today, the Juilliard School is probably the most prominent music school in the entire world. Every young artist, musician, dancer and actor wishes to go to this school.
