Carle Place Car Rental and Carle Place New York

Carle Place is a hamlet in the Town of North Hempstead in Nassau County that you can visit with your Carle Place car rental. It is bordered by Mineola, Garden City, Old Westbury, East Meadow, and Westbury.

What’s in a name?

The hamlet of Carle Place gets its name from the Carle House, a 32 room house built in the 1800s by Silas Carle in Westbury. The surrounding area later took the name, but is also called Frog Hallow from time to time. In 1946, a developer bought 19 acres to build 600 low-cost houses on a site near the Carle Place station of the Long Island Railroad. This offered affordable housing with an easy commute to New York. Within a few years, returning veterans and their families moved to the area and transformed the town.

Explore the surrounding area

Carle Place is part of the Town of North Hempstead. This is the only town on Long Island that doesn’t have a corresponding hamlet or village in its borders with the same name. The west town line borders Queens County, part of New York City, Long Island Sound and Bronx County to the north, and the town of Oyster Bay to the east. Some of the villages in North Hempstead include Flower Hill, Great Neck, Kensington, Kings Point, North Hills, Roslyn, Russell Gardens, Sands Point, and Westbury.

Go out on a limb

Nearby Carle Place with your Carle Place car rental is Great Neck. This is the area along the entire peninsula on the north shore that is made up of nine villages and unincorporated areas of North Hempstead. There is a large park district within this area. Great Neck is a great place to leave your Carle Place car rental because it is within easy commuting distance of Manhattan’s Penn Station and is the only station on the Port Washington Branch, aside from Penn Station, that is served by all local and express trains.

A sign of things to come

Great Neck was once a farming community, but was transformed into a commuter town with the arrival of the railroad. Great Neck and Kings Point were the backdrop of The Great Gatsby. The town symbolized the decadence of the Twenties and was home to stars like Sid Caesar and the Marx Brothers. As a commuter town, there are few “touristy” attractions. While you are here you can visit the Saddle Rock Grist Mill, a historical grain mill that opened as early as the 1700s as well as Steppingstone Park.

Life is a beach

While you are visiting with your Carle Place car rental, you can visit Bar Beach Park in Port Washington for a day in the sun. This thirty-four acre beach has a promenade, fishing pier, bath house, and concession stand. There are also basketball and shuffleboard courts, horseshoe pits, picnic areas, and a playground. During the summer there is a Sunday Afternoon Concert Series which begins July 4th and continues each Sunday until September 1st.
