There’s plenty of fun stuff to do in the winter, especially in places that see a fair amount of snow, such as New York City. The Big Apple’s world-famous Central Park is a great place to take your Manhattan rental cars to for a visit, especially considering how enormous the park actually is. Coming in at a whopping 843 acres of land, and with activities ranging from carousel rides to bird watching, there is no lack of things to do in the park for visitors to New York City. Here is a list with just a few of the many things you can do in Central Park during the winter months.
The Alice in Wonderland Tour
Near Fifth Avenue is an amazing Alice in Wonderland-themed light show. During the winter months, especially around Christmas, the show is a smorgasbord of brilliant lights and diverse colors. This show is perfect for anyone interested in literature, and is obviously eye candy for those with an artistic bent. Adults and children alike will be mesmerized by the show, so why not take your Manhattan rental cars there and see it for yourself.
See our 4WD Fleet page for a listing of the Manhattan rental cars that will help you safely “fall down the rabbit hole” of Central Park and surrounds during the winter.
Central Park Zoo
It’s probably a law somewhere that you are pretty much required to visit the Central Park Zoo when you’re at Central Park. The Central Park Zoo is one of the biggest zoos in the country, and it has its fair share of light shows during the winter time, especially at night, when the lights are bright and dazzling and gorgeous. Can imagine combining the joy of the Christmas season with the glamor of New York City, the dazzling lights, and the wondrous animals hailing from all corners of the globe?
Get Lost in Central Park
Central Park’s 843 acres are perfect to take your Manhattan rental cars to for some aimless wandering. Wear comfortable shoes, don’t forget to bring a map of Central Park, and relax and enjoy this beautifully designed park. In addition to enjoying the manicures areas of Central Park, check out the wilder spots in the park, like The Ramble.
Take a Central Park Walking Tour
If you’re a little overwhelmed by the idea of exploring Central Park on your own, consider going on a Central Park walking tour—free walking tours are offered by the Central Park Conservancy. These free walking tours, of which 10 are available, last anywhere from 60 to 90 minutes.
The Delacorte Theatre
If you’re looking for something a little more mature and refined to do while you’re visiting the city in the winter time, the elaborate Delacorte Theatre is a beautiful setting for you to sit back and relax while enjoying Christmas and other holiday pleasures. If you like drama and want to get away from some of the bustle of the city, take your Manhattan rental cars to this charming little oasis of Merry Olde England.
Central Park Skating Rink
We’ve probably all seen the TV shows and movies featuring the skating rink in Central Park. People from warmer climates wonder at the ability to glide across the ice, and even people from colder climates aren’t immune to the charms of skating on the Central Park rink in the winter. Brightly lit and gorgeously decorated, this is the perfect place to bond with your family as you get into the holiday spirit—not to mention getting a little bit of (likely) needed exercise!
Ride the Central Park Carousel
The Central Park has had a carousel since 1871. Its current carousel, originally built for a trolley terminal outside of Coney Island before being moved to Central Park, has been in place since 1950. Painted entirely by hand and featuring the largest hand-carved figures ever made, the Central Park Carousel makes a good place to take your Manhattan rental cars for a visit. Rides cost $2, and (weather permitting) the carousel is open from 10am until dusk during the winter. The Central Park Carousel is located in the middle portion of the park at approximately 65th Street and 6th Avenue.
