Bergdorf Goodman is a luxury department store in Midtown Manhattan owned by Neiman Marcus. It has for over a century been a popular shopping place in the city and is a great stop with your Manhattan car rental.

The store opened in 1899 when an immigrant from Alsace opened a tailor shop just above Union Square in Manhattan. In 1906, an employee purchased the store and moved it to its present location on Fifth Avenue. The store gained wide appeal because it introduced ready-to-wear pieces to the area, bringing in American and French fashion.

In the early 1960s the store went through a slump that would last until the late 1970s. She was able to help the ailing store become more profitable. She would later be president of the store, only to leave to work for the House of Gucci, then return.

In the 1990s, the store was expanding greatly with increased business. In fact, it was expanded three times to make more space for womens fashions and has since expanded to include a day spa, cafe, and boutiques for designer clothes.
