A quick look at the franchise

When the Brooklyn Dodgers and New York Giants abandoned New York in 1957 for California, the city was left with an empty spot in their hearts. After a disastrous first season in which the Mets posted at 40-120 records, the team attempted to rebuild. However, the team wouldn't really hit their stride until the mid-60s.

The Miracle Mets

This season marked the team's turnaround, as they surged to first place in the National League East Division with a 100-62 record. Since 1964, the New York Mets have taken to the field at Shea Stadium in Flushing, Queens. It had a seating capacity of 55,300 for baseball games and 60,000 for football games. The 2008 season marked the end of an era at Shea, as construction was completed on the new CitiField, located just next door.
