History in the making

Mary Poppins is performed at the New Amsterdam Theatre in New York City. Right in the middle of Times Square, there are many sights to see as you witness this amazing performance of wit, strength and humor. The theatre has a wonderful architecture and a special history behind it. It was built in 1903 by Abraham Lincoln Erlanger and Marcus Klaw. The New Amsterdam Theatre has been called "The House Beautiful" for its style and appearance that is truly one of a kind. A Midsummer Nights Dream was the first play to have ever been performed in this greatly esteemed theatre. It was home to many well-known people like Eddie Cantor, Olive Thomas, Marilyn Miller and Fanny Brice. The theatre closed for a short while because of The Great Depression, but opened again soon after as a place to show movies. The very first move that was played at the theatre was, of course, A Midsummer Nights Dream. The New Amsterdam Theatre re-opened in 1997 and has since been home to The Lion King, Hercules and now Mary Poppins, among others.

The show runs on Wednesdays and Saturdays at 2pm and again at 8pm. There is no performance on Mondays. The show is 2 hours and 45 minutes long with a 15 minute intermission so you can stretch and run to the bathroom, if needed.
