Thirteen years of Construction
The original proposal for the Lincoln Tunnel (then known as the Midtown Hudson Tunnel) consisted of a $62 million twin-tube tunnel which would connected West 38th Street to Weehawken. Instead, authorities decided to add a third tube to the already existent Lincoln tunnel. The final tube was completed in 1957; the project included a peripheral parking area and a variety of other features.
